Melody and Multi-Cultural DayFourteenth Goldfish
…as quoted by author Jennifer L. Holms. The Year of the Goldfish is one of the new Global Read Along Books. If you haven’t participated in this reading program, you are really missing out! This is our third year participating after reading The One and Only Ivan and Out of My Mind in 2012 and 2013 (Check out our picture above with Melody from Out of My Mind. She flew on an airplane to spend a week with our students and share our Multi-Cultural Day). The program starts in October so teachers have plenty of time to make connections on Twitter and Edmodo to collaborate on book projects and Skype discussion groups. Use this book as a mentor text in your reading curriculum.

Smithy Skeeter Great WarSmith Skeeter Belgium
Our class Geobug, Smithy Skeeter, is getting quite an education. As the Sugar Land Skeeters get started with their new baseball season at Constellation Field, Smithy Skeeter continues to travel around in search of the European version of baseball. He has now traveled over 5,400 miles and has arrived in Belgium to learn about The Great War. Obvisously this will be a great math activity for Monday.
